ERASMUS+ STUDENT EXCHANGE AND TRAINEESHIPS

Naslovna stalne vesti

The Erasmus+ offers students scholarship-based mobility programmes - student exchanges and traineeships that can be implemented in any country participating in the program. Participating countries are divided into programme and partner countries. In 2019, the Republic of Serbia became a programme country.

Opportunities to study abroad are available to students of all levels of study, except first-year undergraduate students. In addition to exchanges, students can also stay on a scholarship-based traineeship. Unlike student exchanges, traineeships are also available to first-year undergraduate students. Student exchanges and traineeship must be implemented during the course of studies. However, if the traineeship is implemented in one of the programme countries, students can complete the traineeship even after graduation, provided that they applied while still being enrolled in higher education institutions, and the traineeship must be completed within one year of e graduation date. Student exchanges last from 3 to 12 months, and traineeships from 2 months to a year. Exchanges are designed so that students attend lectures and take exams, i.e., get the corresponding ECTS, which are recognized upon return to the home institution in Serbia. Traineeships serve to acquire and develop practical knowledge and skills through work in foreign institutions, organizations, and companies.

Opportunities for individual mobility within the Erasmus+ programme depend on the initially contracted or planned collaborations of the home higher education institution. In order for mobility to happen at all, a university or faculty from Serbia must have an already approved and financed Erasmus+ project and a contract with another institution based on which students go to student exchanges and traineeships. The approved project is the financial framework of mobility, and the contract is significant as it also defines some other elements, such as, e.g., the study area available to students, mobility quotas, all the rights and obligations of both institutions, as well as the student status during the stay abroad.
